I have now more or less completed his face markings, I will move on to his ear next. I am pleased with how he is progressing and pleased I have survived getting through his whiskers successfully! The paper always looks more textured than it does by taking photos instead of scanning it - as the light is hitting it from one side creating faint shadowing to the texture, the texture is not so apparent on the actual piece :)

SL leopard progress - face markings

Julia - I wanted to ask about the whiskers - do you just leave the area blank and work round it - I did hear that you can score the paper lightly and then the pencil can be drawn across the top leaving the white below? Anyway you're a miracle worker.
Thankyou Jennifer! The first post on this drawing has the method I use, I have never scored the whiskers first, I've seen artwork whereby they have but I prefer to keep the paper in its original state :) it does take patience, Jules
He is really coming along. It takes time but it is sure worth it in the long run. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Julia - sorry I missed this one, but have now caught up and understand the process better.
thankyou Wendy :) not a problem Jennifer I thought it better to direct you than write it all out again :) Jules
Beautiful work Julia and I do like the effect that the textured paper is giving.
Are you finding it more difficult to work on than the smoother papers?
thankyou Bev :) to be honest I do feel comfortable using this paper and I like it because it is the same paper I use for my paintings. I think the texture lifts the drawing somewhat, yes the backdrop is a little irregular and probably takes a bit longer to even out than on a smooth surface, occasionally having to look at the texture to fill in the 'dips' with pencil and to not put too much pressure on the 'bumps' if that makes sense! However in regard to the fur and probably skin when I draw my next ellie I think it's really effective and gives another 3d quality to it! I hope this helps, Jules
This is SO beautiful so far Julia! Your talent amazes me. When I zoomed on it, I can almost feel his fur...SO realistic!
Beautiful drawing so far, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished work.
